Roman Abramovich’s role in Russia-Ukraine peace talks revealed When it was originally suggested a few weeks ago, the idea that Roman Abramovich was involved in peace talks between Ukraine and Russia seemed far-fetched, but since then, we've learned more and more about it.  It was first mentioned by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and now we have further information thanks to an exclusive in the New York Times.  According to Hannah Lucinda Smith's report today, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich met with a member of the Ukrainian parliament this week in Istanbul, where he is currently based.  The oligarch has also visited Moscow and Kiev, where he met with both Zelensky and Vladimir Putin and exchanged communications (including a handwritten note).  The talks appear to be progressing.

What Mason Mount did for Jorginho after devastating World Cup exit Football rivalries are ephemeral, coming and going with little notice.  Italy had no reason to despise England, but after defeating the Three Lions in the Euro 2020 final last summer, they rubbed it in, irritating England fans.  When Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup this week (for the second time in a row), there was plenty of smugness around, and Mason Mount was even questioned if he was delighted to see them fail.  He responded that he had been in contact with one of his club teammates, Jorginho, to express his sympathies during a difficult time for the Italy midfielder.  That's how it should be, and that's exactly what we're going to do.

Timo Werner tries to explain why he plays better for Germany than Chelsea Timo Werner scored for Germany again yesterday, demonstrating that he is in greater form with his country than he is with his club, where he is now unable to obtain regular game time.  After the game, he was queried about the strange difference, and according to Nizaar Kinsella, he claimed that the style of play for his national side suited him better.  That's a pity. At club level, he's been tried in every position imaginable, including up top, on the left, on the right, with a partner, and alone. If he doesn't feel at ease in any of them, perhaps it's time we all recognized that he won't be the lethal attacker we all hoped he'd be for us in the future.

Chelsea man looks happy as he finally joins national team after delay due to ‘personal issues’ N'Golo Kante, a Chelsea midfielder, finally joined up with the French national team this week, which was a welcome sight.  Kante had been unable to join up with the squad owing to 'personal concerns,' which naturally had you worried about what had happened.  But he was seen smiling again, and things appear to be going well for him as he prepares to represent his country once more.  Now all we have to do is hope he and the rest of our players stay healthy and injury-free during this time.

According to Fichajes, one prominent name keeping an eye on Lukaku is Real Madrid, who are looking for a world-class attacking player this summer and see Lukaku as a 'Plan B' alternative if they don't secure their top targets Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.

Fabrizio Romano provides update on future of Chelsea-linked midfielder Chelsea was one of the clubs interested in signing Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, but the Blues are understood to be out of the running following owner Roman Abramovich's recent sanctioning.  Despite the fact that other teams have tried to gain an advantage in the battle to recruit the highly-rated midfielder, journalist Fabrizio Romano recently reported that the fight for the Frenchman is still wide open.  "If I were at a large club and saw a profile like Aurelien, I would want his services," Monaco's sporting director Paul Mitchell told The Athletic last year on the possibility of losing Tchouameni.  "I feel he has the ability to play in the finest leagues in the world and dominate the most important games."
