Mohamed Salah Misses Penalty After Having Lasers Shone In Eyes, Egypt Are NOT Going To The World Cup

Image
Senegal won the World Cup play-off final against Egypt, with Egypt's players having lasers shone in their faces during the penalty shootout. It needed penalties to separate the two teams in a rematch of the Africa Cup of Nations final from February. Egypt won the first leg 1-0, but Senegal took the lead three minutes later thanks to an own goal by Hamdi Fathi. Few chances fell to either side during a tense match in Diamniadio, forcing a shootout to determine who would travel to Qatar.

'He Was Outrageous!': Liverpool Fans Rave Over Compilation Of Luis Suarez's 2013-14 Season

Image
Luis Suarez was virtually impenetrable for Liverpool at moments during the 2013-14 season. In his final season at Anfield, the controversial Uruguayan scored 31 goals in 33 league games as Liverpool came agonizingly close to winning the Premier League title under Brendan Rodgers. Suarez would go on to win multiple individual honors at the end of the season, despite Liverpool falling barely short in the closing weeks of the season. He won the PFA Player of the Year title as well as the Premier League Player of the Season award, as well as the Premier League Golden Boot. Few players in the Premier League's history have had such a season of individual brilliance. You can view a new compilation video of his top moments from that season here.

Zinedine Zidane Is Still Responsible For Football's Most Genius Penalty In His Final Game

Image
The panenka penalty by Zinedine Zidane in the 2006 World Cup final may be the most underappreciated technique in football history. France faced Italy, and Zidane had declared that he would be retiring that summer prior to the competition. But what doesn't get enough attention is Zidane's absolute artistry earlier in the game. He became the fourth player in World Cup final history to score a penalty, and he did so in style after just seven minutes. He didn't just score any panenka, either. The former Real Madrid striker deceived Gianluigi Buffon by having his strike bounce in off the bar rather than hitting the net.

Boxing Ring Girl Calls Out Russian President Vladimir Putin For Fight And Vows To Be 'Aggressive'

Image
A boxing ring girl has spoken out against Russian President Vladimir Putin, vowing to be "aggressive." After allowing a full-scale invasion of Ukraine and causing war and instability in Eastern Europe, Putin is unquestionably the world's number one enemy. Jiselle Arianne, a Bally Sports ring girl, wants to face the 69-year-old inside the squared circle. Putin, 69, previously possessed an honorary black belt, but the World Taekwondo Federation removed it last month due to recent events. "The savage attacks on innocent lives in Ukraine go against the World Taekwondo vision of 'Peace is More Precious Than Triumph' and the World Taekwondo values of respect and tolerance," the organization said. "World Taekwondo is leading the way in this area."

Rare Footage Of A 20-Year-Old Harry Maguire Smashing The Two-Footed Corner Challenge Has Emerged

Image
When he was 20 years old, Harry Maguire competed in Sky Sports' two-footed corner challenge and won. In 2013, Sky cameras went to Sheffield United to put three players to the test, one of whom was a young Maguire. With teammates Neill Collins and Tony McMahon, future Manchester United captain Maguire would take turns taking corners. The rules stated that each player must score directly from a corner with their left foot first, then their right foot, with no bounce before reaching the goal line.

It was great to see 'Gazza' notch a goal, but there was another incident during the day's festivities. Gascoigne appears to have persuaded a youngster onto the Ibrox pitch to join in with him and kick around. Gascoigne orders the youngster to go stand at the opposite end of the pitch with his own ball. As he flees, the 54-year-old extends his leg and trips the boy, who falls to the ground in a heap.

How Much Premier League's Biggest Transfer Fees Would Be Today Revealed

Image
How Much Premier League's Biggest Transfer Fees Would Be Today Revealed The buyout of Chelsea by Roman Abramovich initially increased the bar, then the infusion of money from the Middle East at Manchester City and then PSG lifted the bar once again.  Neymar's €222 million transfer to Paris in 2017 shattered the previous record of €117 million set only a year earlier.  In short, football's inflation has far outpaced that of the rest of society, making pre-2005 transfer payments appear even lower.  The Athletic produced an astounding article based on a football inflation calculator developed by football finance expert Kieran Maguire and his University of Liverpool colleague Jason Laws to calculate how much certain deals would cost now.

RSPCA Criticise Ben Chilwell For Playing Tug-Of-War With A Tiger

RSPCA Criticise Ben Chilwell For Playing Tug-Of-War With A Tiger The Chelsea defender has been out of action since November, but it wasn't until January that it was announced that he will be sidelined for the rest of the season due to surgery.  This has left him with some free time this week, and it appears that he's spent it in Florida with a group of buddies, visiting a theme park.  While in America, one of the 25-year-three old's friends, Taylor Baker, released a video of the four friends playing tug-of-war with a tiger on social media.  The incident is thought to have occurred at Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay, where the "Tiger Tug" has been running for several years, with Baker captioning the video "Tiger Won."

Mohamed Salah Would Be Making A 'Massive Mistake' If He Left Liverpool, Warns Jose Enrique Salah's long-term future has been the subject of intense speculation this season, with the Egyptian's current contract due to expire in the summer of 2023. Talks over a new deal have stalled, with Liverpool reluctant to match Salah's current wage demands. Reports have claimed the 29-year-old is holding out for a weekly salary of more than £300,000, which would make him by far Liverpool's highest-paid player.

Roman Abramovich And Ukraine Peace Negotiators 'Poisoned' With 'Skin Peeling Off Their Faces'

Roman Abramovich And Ukraine Peace Negotiators 'Poisoned' With 'Skin Peeling Off Their Faces ' Following peace talks with Russia in Kyiv, the outgoing Chelsea owner and Ukrainian negotiators were targeted.  Abramovich and two other senior members of the group involved in the peace discussions became unwell and developed symptoms, according to reports. Red eyes and peeling skin on their faces and hands were among the symptoms, according to the Wall Street Journal.  According to accounts, the Russian billionaire 'lost his sight for several hours' and was treated in a Turkish hospital.  Hardliners are suspected of carrying out the alleged attack in order to derail peace talks in Ukraine.

Former Arsenal Star Claims Mesut Ozil Had "Problems With Everyone" Since being released by Arsenal in January 2021, six months before his contract was set to expire, the midfielder has been playing for the Turkish side.  However, things appear to have gone similarly at Istanbul as they did towards the end of his career in the Premier League, where he was also sacked.  Monreal has now spoken out about his time in north London, when he clashed with Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery, and Mikel Arteta before moving to Istanbul.  Monreal told Four Four Two, "Ozil's problem is that he had difficulties with everyone."

Jordan Henderson Exclusive: Liverpool Captain Says 'The Sky Is The Limit' For England Teammate Jude Bellingham It's easy to see why the all-action midfielder from Stourbridge, near Birmingham, has such high expectations. He won Goal's NXGN award for 2022 last week, topping their list of the 50 finest youngsters in the globe.  Bellingham has the potential to reach the elite of the sport, according to Liverpool captain Henderson, but he warns against expecting too much too soon.  "I don't enjoy praising players too much, especially when they're so young, because everyone else seems to do it so rapidly." But I've been extremely impressed," Henderson said before of Saturday's 2-1 victory over Switzerland to SPORTbible.  "I enjoy his style of play. The most important thing to me is that I enjoy his personality. I admire the manner in which he conducts himself.

Spain coach hails “very strong” Armando Broja

Image
Spain coach hails “very strong” Armando Broja Armando Broja has had a brilliant season for Southampton, stepping up to Premier League football and looking incredibly comfortable from the moment he started. He was already playing for Albania last season when he was on loan at Vitesse, and his importance for his national team has only grown since then. He has the look of a star in the making, as Spain boss Luis Enrique noted in his press conference this week after his team came back to beat Albania 2-1. “Broja is very strong,” Enrique said in quotes picked up by the  Daily Echo . “If you look at him at Southampton he causes problems for the best central defenders in the world.” Broja has such a potent combination of speed and strength, as well as great ability striking the ball. That makes him a menace for defenders already. With more time and experience he will become even more clever as a forward, and can really turn himself into one of the most feared strikers in the division. Whe...

Chelsea have first option on talented defender following England debut

Image
Chelsea have first option on talented defender following England debut Marc Guehi has had a fantastic season at Crystal Palace since joining from Chelsea this summer, and his international debut for England this week highlighted that.  The centre back came via Chelsea's youth system, but decided last summer that a permanent move would be preferable to another loan.  We're sure the Chelsea hierarchy would have preferred to keep him — his pedigree is undeniable – but they also realized they couldn't stop him.  They did, however, manage to hedge their bets a little against the future. According to Tom Barclay of GiveMeSport, the Blues have a first option clause on Guehi, which means Palace will accept any Chelsea bid that matches one from another club.

Thiago Silva bounces question about Brazil return

Image
Thiago Silva bounces question about Brazil return Thiago Silva is still one of the greatest defenders in the Premier League, despite the fact that he is 37 years old. What's more impressive is that he's doing it while still playing for Brazil on a regular basis.  Instead of taking a fortnight off during the international break like other players his age, Silva is forced to travel around the world to represent his country - not that he complains.  He was questioned about his transfer future, as is customary when players represent their countries and meet several national media outlets, and a local Brazilian outlet asked him about the possibility of returning to play for Fluminense in Brazil.  A report on his response was picked up by SportWitness – the defender just asked for the "next" question and didn't respond.

Barcelona will have to get major business done to steal Chelsea pair

Image
Barcelona will have to get major business done to steal Chelsea pair Two Chelsea players have been widely linked with Barcelona ahead of potential summer moves, but nothing has been verified.  The Spanish club is on the lookout for free agents, and Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta have been highlighted as possible targets. While there would be no transfer fee, the fact that they are relocating for free indicates they will be paid well.  Barcelona can afford it, but only if they drastically alter their current wage structure. Football. According to London, they may have to move as many as seven players to make room for the Chelsea players.  Perhaps that's what Blues fans can cling to - it'll be difficult for the Blaugrana to do so, and it's possible that we'll finish up in a relegation battle.

Roman Abramovich’s role in Russia-Ukraine peace talks revealed

Image
Roman Abramovich’s role in Russia-Ukraine peace talks revealed When it was originally suggested a few weeks ago, the idea that Roman Abramovich was involved in peace talks between Ukraine and Russia seemed far-fetched, but since then, we've learned more and more about it.  It was first mentioned by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and now we have further information thanks to an exclusive in the New York Times.  According to Hannah Lucinda Smith's report today, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich met with a member of the Ukrainian parliament this week in Istanbul, where he is currently based.  The oligarch has also visited Moscow and Kiev, where he met with both Zelensky and Vladimir Putin and exchanged communications (including a handwritten note).  The talks appear to be progressing.

Chelsea attackers rounding into form for final stretch

Image
Chelsea attackers rounding into form for final stretch We return to club football after the international break, with the season's closing stretch in sight. Chelsea will have a busy season ahead of them, with three competitions to contend with, but we're prepared.  The team has been improving in recent weeks as a whole, and they've progressively added attacking fluidity to their defensive shape.  This is echoed on a personal level as well. Christian Pulisic scored a hat trick for the United States last night, after scoring a couple goals and assisting for Chelsea in recent weeks. In recent weeks, Hakim Ziyech has also had one of his best times at the club.

Declan Rice’s brilliant season highlights so far

Image
Declan Rice’s brilliant season highlights so far If Chelsea's takeover drags on, one of the biggest tragedies would be if it stymied our pursuit of Declan Rice. We've been after the midfielder for a while, waiting for the right moment to make a move. That appears to be this summer, but if we aren't in a position to spend a lot of money, we may miss out.

“His one request” – Christian Pulisic explains the reason for his ‘worm’ celebration

Image
“His one request” – Christian Pulisic explains the reason for his ‘worm’ celebration Christian Pulisic, a Chelsea winger, is currently on international duty with his country.  He scored a hat-trick, including two penalties, to help the United States defeat Panama 5-1 Friday night.  Pulisic, who was once again on point with the ball at his feet, had an exciting game. He performed the worm dance to commemorate one of his goals.  It appears that he had a good motive for doing it, as he did it for a'special' young man named Mason whom he met at a community event. This is fantastic!

What Mason Mount did for Jorginho after devastating World Cup exit

Image
What Mason Mount did for Jorginho after devastating World Cup exit Football rivalries are ephemeral, coming and going with little notice.  Italy had no reason to despise England, but after defeating the Three Lions in the Euro 2020 final last summer, they rubbed it in, irritating England fans.  When Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup this week (for the second time in a row), there was plenty of smugness around, and Mason Mount was even questioned if he was delighted to see them fail.  He responded that he had been in contact with one of his club teammates, Jorginho, to express his sympathies during a difficult time for the Italy midfielder.  That's how it should be, and that's exactly what we're going to do.

Timo Werner tries to explain why he plays better for Germany than Chelsea

Image
Timo Werner tries to explain why he plays better for Germany than Chelsea Timo Werner scored for Germany again yesterday, demonstrating that he is in greater form with his country than he is with his club, where he is now unable to obtain regular game time.  After the game, he was queried about the strange difference, and according to Nizaar Kinsella, he claimed that the style of play for his national side suited him better.  That's a pity. At club level, he's been tried in every position imaginable, including up top, on the left, on the right, with a partner, and alone. If he doesn't feel at ease in any of them, perhaps it's time we all recognized that he won't be the lethal attacker we all hoped he'd be for us in the future.

Moment Christian Pulisic shows skill and composure to grab USA hat-trick

Image
(Video): Christian Pulisic shows skill and composure to grab USA hat-trick Christian Pulisic once again demonstrated why he is the true talisman for his country by scoring a hat-trick in a single game.  The Chelsea winger's Premier League career has been marked by inconsistency, owing in part to many injuries. But he's had some decent injury-free game time recently, and he's been in fantastic form for both club and country.  After converting two excellent penalties, he scored his third goal to help the United States 5 -1

OPINIONThibaut Courtois to face harsh reality as his Chelsea fan wish is granted ahead of CL fixture. Thibaut Courtois, once heralded as Stamford Bridge's gatekeeper, makes his comeback. Unlike his first visit, when he was greeted by an empty stadium filled with the spirits of Chelsea supporters, this time he will be greeted by a swarm of people. The days of Chelsea fans chanting 'Thibaut, Thibaut, Thibaut' after one of their ex-spectacular goalkeeper's saves are long gone.

Thomas Tuchel faces £100m transfer regret with Arsenal lurking for Chelsea's Armando Broja

Image
OPINIONThomas Tuchel faces £100m transfer regret with Arsenal lurking for Chelsea's Armando Broja  I've wished for the day when a Cobham graduate is worth £100 million. It was bound to happen because the Chelsea Academy can't seem to stop producing high-caliber athletes. We may have taken a risk by selling this player, but he could be back in our lineup in 2023. Tammy Abraham is thought to be extremely valuable to his current team, Roma. They believe it is so valuable that they want to charge £100 million for it. After watching him develop into the player he is now, I feel like a proud elder siblin Personally, I believe £100 million is a bit much for him right now, but he has developed into a monster. Would I be willing to take him back? Perhaps in 2023.g.

Chelsea man looks happy as he finally joins national team after delay due to ‘personal issues’ N'Golo Kante, a Chelsea midfielder, finally joined up with the French national team this week, which was a welcome sight.  Kante had been unable to join up with the squad owing to 'personal concerns,' which naturally had you worried about what had happened.  But he was seen smiling again, and things appear to be going well for him as he prepares to represent his country once more.  Now all we have to do is hope he and the rest of our players stay healthy and injury-free during this time.

Real Madrid consider transfer swoop for Chelsea star as possible Plan B option

Real Madrid consider transfer swoop for Chelsea star as possible Plan B option Real Madrid are allegedly considering making a summer transfer for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.  On his best days, the Belgium international is one of the best center-forwards in the world, but he's had a terrible season at Stamford Bridge, and it wouldn't be unexpected if he left soon. According to Fichajes, one prominent name keeping an eye on Lukaku is Real Madrid, who are looking for a world-class attacking player this summer and see Lukaku as a 'Plan B' alternative if they don't secure their top targets Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.

Fabrizio Romano provides update on future of Chelsea-linked midfielder Chelsea was one of the clubs interested in signing Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, but the Blues are understood to be out of the running following owner Roman Abramovich's recent sanctioning.  Despite the fact that other teams have tried to gain an advantage in the battle to recruit the highly-rated midfielder, journalist Fabrizio Romano recently reported that the fight for the Frenchman is still wide open.  "If I were at a large club and saw a profile like Aurelien, I would want his services," Monaco's sporting director Paul Mitchell told The Athletic last year on the possibility of losing Tchouameni.  "I feel he has the ability to play in the finest leagues in the world and dominate the most important games."

Chelsea attacker admits Blues’ style of football doesn’t best suit him

Chelsea attacker admits Blues’ style of football doesn’t best suit him Werner, 26, joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in a £47.7 million transfer in 2020.  Despite arriving in London with a reputation as one of Europe's most dangerous attackers, the 26-year-performances old's have fallen short of expectations.  The German's goal involvements are far less than those he notched up while playing in the Bundesliga, with only 19 goals in 80 appearances in all competitions (95 in 159 games).  Hansi Flick's Die Mannschaft, on the other hand, has never been like that.  Werner has played an important role for his country since making his senior national debut in early 2017. He has 21 goals in 47 caps.  The 26-year-most old's recent contribution was a late first-half goal in Saturday's game.
