Malang Sarr joined Chelsea instead of West Ham from Nice on a free transfer in the summer of 2020. The 22-year-old was a transfer target for Hammers boss David Moyes at the time but he favoured a move to Stamford Bridge (FC Inter News and Telefoot journalist Saber Desfarges). At the time, Sarr’s decision was an understandable one. Chelsea were challenging for the top four and the Champions League. Meanwhile, West Ham had just barely avoided relegation.
