Todd Boehly blast Thomas Tuchel and reveal how he caused Raphinha and Jules Kounde to reject Chelsea and join Barcelona

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly was unhappy with Thomas Tuchel during the summer transfer window and felt he could have done more to convince players to sign, according to reports.

The German was surprisingly dismissed from his position on Wednesday morning following a shock 1-0 defeat away to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, with Brighton’s Graham Potter expected to replace him.

However, it increasingly appears that Tuchel’s sacking was less to do with results and performances on the pitch and more to do with his relationship with Chelsea’s hierarchy away from it.

According to CBS Sports, Boehly and his fellow directors became frustrated with Tuchel’s lack of help in convincing players to join Chelsea and feel they missed out on signings as a result.

Chief among them were Raphinha and Jules Kounde, with Boehly having pushed hard for both signings only to see them join Barcelona.

In the case of Kounde, Chelsea had agreed a fee with Sevilla and Barca’s hierarchy had even resigned themselves to missing out on the Frenchman.

Boehly wanted Tuchel to sell the club to Kounde and felt the 23-year-old could be persuaded to snub Barca at that stage – though the German did not seem to share his owner’s enthusiasm over a deal.
