  The Blues have been very successful over the years but one thing remains elusive to them, a player wearing the number nine shirt and having success. Romelu Lukaku signed in August 2021 for around £100 million and was given the number on his long awaited return to Stamford Bridge, after the club failed to re-sign him in 2017. Things did not go well for the Belgian however, as he scored just 15 times in 44 games in all competitions and returned back to Inter Milan this summer on loan. Lukaku isn't the only player to have failed with the number nine shirt, and Thomas Tuchel even claimed previously that players were scared to take the shirt number. He spent just six months at the Catalan club after arriving in a controversial move from Arsenal at the end of the January transfer window. But Aubameyang chose to leave Barcelona for Chelsea this summer after the La Liga side signed Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.
